The river that divides the city of Yogyakarta into two has historically been the basis for the establishment of the Mataram Kingdom in Yogyakarta. The Kali Code in Yogyakarta and surrounding housing areas were exposed to the 2014 Kelud volcanic ash.

Because this river originates from a very active volcano, this river often experiences lava floods, better known as floods caused by the fall or drift of cold lava that settles on the dome of Mount Merapi, as a result of rain that occurred in the mountain region. lahar floods that can be ensured will always occur if the lava deposits on Mount Merapi are exposed to rain, so that the lava is washed away and flows through the code river will have a very large impact on residents along the riverbanks. Many houses were damaged or washed away by the cold lava flood.
